SageSURPASS was named as the merit award winner in the Best of Industrial Applications category of the 10th International Asia Pacific ICT Alliance awards in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

August 2010

Sage Technology's Integrated Safe System of Work (iSSoW) solution, SageSURPASS, has won national recognition and is now set to contest at an international level.

SageSURPASS was named as winner of the Industrial Applications Category at the Australian Information Industry Association's national iAwards in a glittering ceremony at Melbourne's Crown Palladium.

The iAwards are Australia's premier technology innovation awards and lead into the prestigious Asia-Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in October.

Sage Technology Managing Director, Lynda Bertoli, said the award win was a major achievement for a small regionally-based company and acknowledgement of the significant investment that the company has made in developing SageSURPASS.

"This result is a recognition and endorsement of the quality and importance of our safe working systems that protect lives and eliminate risk in industrial plant," Ms Bertoli said, "It is also an endorsement of the team we have here at Sage that has worked for the past 12 years in designing, developing, supporting and improving our electronic permit to work systems."

Victorian Minister for Information and Communication Technology, John Lenders, said the iAwards showcased the innovation, quality and technical diversity of Australia's ICT sector.

AIIA CEO, Ian Birks, said, "Now in its sixteenth year, the 2010 iAwards has attracted the highest number of entries and one of the strongest fields on record. Australian ICT companies continue to match the best technology innovation on offer across the globe.

"We have a world-class industry poised to deliver solutions to the Australian businss and industry community that will not only drive productivity to new levels as we enter the digital economy, but also provide critical solutions to challenges ranging from environmental sustainability to healthcare and an ageing population."

SageSURPASS was named as an award winner and a national finalist in the Industrial Applications Category at the Victorian iAwards ceremony held in Melbourne.

The iAwards are run by the Australian Information Industry Association.

Jaala Pulford, Parliamentary Secretary for Industry and Trade, represented the ICT Minister at the Victorian awards ceremony and gave high praise to the outstanding talent on display.

"These awards recognise the fantastic innovations that Victorian companies are making in the ICT space and showcases the enormous talent that is the reason why Victoria leads the nation in ICT," Ms Pulford said.

The Industrial Applications category recognises ICT innovation that delivers improved outcomes in industrial processes or activity. IT may be any application of software and/or hardware that enables engineering automation, improves the effectiveness of product and service development or increases efficiency and productivity.

The APICTA Awards recognise creativity, innovation and excellence in Information Communications Technology in the 16 countries which make up the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance. SageSURPASS qualified for the APICTA awards by winning the Industrial Application category of the Australian Information Industry Association iAwards in August.

Sage Technology Managing Director, Lynda Bertoli, accepted the international award at a glittering ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Friday October 15.

She said the award win was a significant achievement for a small regionally-based company and acknowledgement of the significant investment that the company has made in developing SageSURPASS.

“These awards are the most coveted recognition for ground-breaking innovations in ICT in the region. Winning an APICTA award is seen as the hallmark of success in our industry and is recognition and endorsement of the quality and importance of our safe working systems that protect lives and eliminate risk in industrial plant,” Ms Bertoli said.

“It is also an endorsement of the team we have here at Sage that have worked for the past 12 years in designing, developing, supporting and improving our electronic permit to work systems.”

SageSURPASS has been implemented at all of Woodside Energy’s on shore and off shore facilities, AGL Torrens Island Power Station and as a training tool at the Challenger Institute of Technology’s Australian Centre for Energy and Process Training in Western Australia.

Malaysian Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, said the awards provided “due recognition to innovators and creators who are at the forefront of the ICT industry. Acknowledging the best is an endorsement and a source of encouragement.”

Malaysian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, said the International APICTA Awards contributed significantly to deepening innovation.

“Innovation is the heartbeat of development. It is the key driver that determines economic growth and economic change,” he said.
